Thursday, March 18

Students took a test over 1/2 the lit. unit.  We will have the other part next Tuesday.  The homework assignment is to study the stories on your list, through "Flowers for Algernon," and study for the vocab. quiz on Monday over Unit 20.  

Wednesday, March 17

Students reviewed information for the test tomorrow.  The homework assignment is to study for that!  (Read yesterday's, March 16, info.)

Tuesday, March 16

Students went over terms from the literature unit we've been covering.  (The first part of the test on Thursday will cover the literature terms and the stories from "The Medicine Bag" to "The Wise Old Woman" on the list of stories from the unit.)  Everyone needs to study for the test on Thursday! 

*The second part of the test will be on Tuesday next week and will cover the stories on the list from "The Elevator" to "Flowers for Algernon."

*There is also a vocab. quiz on Monday.

Monday, March 15

Students went over the vocab. for next Monday's quiz, Unit 20.  (There's no school on Friday.)  Students briefly discussed the two articles.  There will be a test on Thursday.  Students were given a list today of the stories that will be covered on the test over the unit and the terms from the unit.

Wednesday, March 10

Students wrote a brief explanation of the difference in the scope of the two articles that were assigned for today.  After they finished, they worked in small groups on the questions over the articles on p. 413.  The homework assignment is to make sure you have read all of the stories that have been assigned.  Take your literature book home!!!  There will be a test next week over the unit.

Tuesday, March 9

Students discussed the two folk tales and their themes, along with the terms folk tale and fiction/nonfiction.  The homework assignment is to read the two articles starting on p. 398 (through p. 412) about the San Francisco earthquake and Hurricane Katrina.

Monday, March 8

Students discussed "The Old Grandfather..." and "The Wise Old Woman."  There is no homework assignment for tomorrow.  (For those who will be gone tomorrow, we will be reading two articles on pages 398-409 in class.)Because of the short week, there will NOT be a vocab. quiz on Friday.

Friday, March 5

Students took their vocab. quiz and had DEAR time.  The homework assignment is to read "The Wise Old Woman" on p. 466.  (Most students read this during DEAR time.)

Thursday, March 4

Students discussed "Harriet Tubman" and took notes (allusion, characterization).  Students also had a brief quiz over the reading.  The homework assignment is to read "The Old Grandfather and His Little Grandson."  (It's very short.  Don't forget the vocab. quiz tomorrow.

Students practiced using who/whom and reviewed relative pronouns.  Then, we discussed indefinite pronouns.  The homework assignment, which students had time to finish in class, is Ex. 7, on page 83.  All you have to do is write the word to fill in the blank.

G on page 66 by writing sentences at the board and went over the vocab. for this Friday's quiz over Unit 3 Vocab.  The homework assignment is A and B, pages 67-68.  Write S or F only on A, and on B, write sub. or pred. and then write the word that is the simple sub. or pred. in the word group.

Students took their vocab. quiz over Unit 2 and read p. 65.  We discussed the sentence types and did Ex. 10 on page 66  orally.  The homework assignment is Rev. Students practiced finding subjects and verbs in sentences by using their homework sentences as practice.  The homework assignment for Tuesday is Ex. 7, page 61.  Just write the compound subjects (main words only) and the verb.

Tuesday, Sept. 1

Students went over the homework assignment by working at the board.  The homework assignment is to choose five of the word groups in Rev. E, page 60, to make into complete sentences.  For one of the five, make the sentence as long as you can without adding any other verbs to it.
